I am not sure how many of my posts are actually read. So I took a couple of days off. And just what did I learn with a couple of days off? I learned that I am pretty much all healed up from my back injury.
This past Saturday I got up at my usual weekend time and had breakfast, played a board game with my daughter and was itching to try this running thing again. So I checked all my gear (play list and headphones) and laced up my kicks. I busted out 4 miles and felt better when I ended than I did when I started.
So on Sunday, when my wife slept in I took it as a sign to try again. So in the 45 minutes that my daughter was in CCD, I ran another 4 miles. Just as good and bit faster.
This morning, I got up at 4 and had breakfast and did a little stretching. I woke my son at 5 and set out again. It was cold and I was rushed into only doing 3 miles, but I got out there. What a relief. I am not sure when I will up the distance, but who cares! No marathon for 7 months.
It was so energizing to get up and out. I feel alive again. A little sore as I have not run in a while, but it will pass.
Tonight will be another walk with my bride and my home PT exercises.
If you take anything away from this, take this. Being 45 and fit is hard. Being 45 and pain free is impossible. Everyone hurts a little. What I am totally sold on is that eating right, stretching and core work, and drinking water is a lifesaver. Having been on the sidelines for months was a real eye opener. Slow and steady will win this race.
